Ken McAvoy
Biography:
Ken graduated from Queens University, Belfast in 1967 and then completed an MSc in marine hydraulics at Strathclyde University Glasgow. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in Ireland & UK He has spent most of his career as a design engineer having been Chief Executive of a Consulting Engineering House operating globally for 20 years. In 2000 he was a founding Director of an innovative low carbon cement manufacturing company (Ecocem). He acted as Technical Director for 20 years and successfully designed and commissioned processing plants in Europe with a capacity of 2.5Mt of production. He remains as a non- executive director of this company which is today the leading low carbon cement producer in Europe. He is a founding director of 3CPT and continues to help steer this company in a sustainable growth path.
Henry Rice
Biography:
Henry graduated with a BE degree in mechanical engineering and was awarded a PhD for studies on non-linear vibrations from the National University of Ireland (UCD,1981,85). He is currently a professor in the school of engineering at Trinity College Dublin of which he was head from 2016-22 and is a senior fellow of the college. Since his PhD he has continued to work on modelling (numerical and analytical), testing and design of dynamic systems including those in the area of acoustics, micro-fluidics, electromechanical and structural materials. Henry has a particular focus on model reduction enabling implementation of practical design processes. He has over 100 peer reviewed publications in the international literature with funded applications in aerospace, additive manufacturing, power generation, computational methods and environmental noise.
